I Like Spring!

I never thought I would say it, but I like spring! I'm quickly coming to like my pesky pollen allergies with the constant scratchy throat, stuffy nose, and itchy, watery eyes better than these dreary, snowy, rainy winter days. We're quickly approaching the thirty-inch total mark when it comes to snow (13" - 12/18, 9" - 1/29, and 6" - 2/5). In fact, some of the December snow was still piled up in parking lots aroung Mount Airy last week before the snow started falling.

Don't get me wrong! I'm still a winter kind of guy. My motto is, "You can always add a layer (in winter), but there's only so much you can take off (in summer)." I used to sleep on the second floor of our house in Jonesville. The nearest heat vent for our oil furnace was at the bottom of the stairs. When we heated with a wood stove, I would stand in front of the stove until it felt like my polyester pajamas were about to melt and then dash upstairs and bury myself under the covers. I still like to burrow down in the bed, but Tracy makes me turn the comforter down when we sleep together (she works three or four nights each week).

Anyway, someone said on Facebook this past week that although Pawxatawney Phil (sp?) saw his shadow and ran for cover, General Beauregard Lee in Atlanta didn't see his shadow and stayed out to sun himself for a while, meaning the end of winter is in sight. Now, I ask you, would any self-respecting Southerner take the prognostication of a Yankee groundhog over his Southern counterpart? Absolutely not! To be honest, I'll take anything I can get to put away my snow shovels and hang the sled back on the wall.

Of course, the current storm hasn't run its full course yet. The power may go out again before I finish this post, and we're supposed to have snow showers through tomorrow afternoon.

And there's another storm on the radar for Tuesday.

I LIKE SPRING!!
